The Godavari River is the longest river in South India and is often called the "Dakshin Ganga" (Ganga of the South) because of its great cultural and economic importance. It originates from Trimbakeshwar in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and flows eastward through the states of

- Andhra Pradesh
- Chhattisgarh
- Odisha
Before emptying into the Bay of Bengal, the river is about 1,465 kilometres long, making it the second-longest river in India after the Ganga. The Godavari and its tributaries provide water for irrigation, drinking, and hydroelectric power, and support agriculture and millions of people along its banks.
